Transport Provider Charged for Paying Bribes to Close Deals


          The accused, Ng Chew Chuah was the sole proprietor of M/s Ming Chuan Transportation & Coach Service.

2         Investigation revealed that between October 2005 and March 2007, the accused had, on 18 occasions, given bribes totaling $17,500/- to one Lau Yeow Hui @ Eric, the Welfare Programme Coordinator of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD), as a reward for his assistance in procuring a contract to provide transportation services to the SPD.

3         Lau Yeow Hui @ Eric was convicted for 18 counts of corruptly accepting gratifications from the accused and was sentenced to a total fine of $10,000/- on 2 August 2010. He was also ordered by the Court to pay a penalty of $17,500/- for the bribes he received.

4         The accused appeared in court on 1St September 2010 for 18 counts under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Cap 241 for giving the bribes to Lau Yeow Hui @ Eric.
