Stuck in An Illegal Position

It is illegal for individuals to misuse, or instigate others to misuse official work computers to secure unauthorised access to data to further their own private interests.

2. On 23 November 2017, Kobi Krishna S/O Ayavoo, a Senior Chief Warder with the Singapore Prison Service (SPS), will be charged with the following:

i. One count of abetment by instigating Staff Sergeant Firoz Khan s/o Shaik Fazaluddin from the SPS to secure unauthorised access to data held in the Prisons Operations and Rehabilitation System (PORTS), which was committed, and thereby constituting an offence punishable under section 3(1) read with section 10(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, Chapter 50A. The data was pertaining to an inmate’s number.

ii. One count of abetment by instigating a Chief Warder from the SPS to secure unauthorised access to data in PORTS, which was not committed, and thereby constituting an offence punishable under section 3(1) read with section 10(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, Chapter 50A, punishable under section 116 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

3. Another Prison Officer, Staff Sergeant Firoz Khan s/o Shaik Fazaluddin, will also be charged on 23 November 2017 with one count of knowingly securing unauthorized access to data in PORTS, an offence punishable under Section 3(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, Chapter 50A.

4. Kobi Krishna S/O Ayavoo had earlier been charged on 6 July 2017 with eight counts of corruptly attempting to obtain gratification from an inmate as an inducement to facilitate his request to transfer to a different prison institution, an offence punishable under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 241. The alleged gratification includes loans amounting to $70,000 and cash amounting to $11,000.

5. Singapore adopts a zero tolerance approach towards corruption and other criminal acts. The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau takes a serious view of any corrupt practices and will not hesitate to take action against any party involved in such acts.
