Former Employee of a Charity Charged for Acceptinq Bribes


          The accused is Lau Yeow Hui @ Eric. At the material time, the accused was the Welfare Programme Coordinator in the employ of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) and was responsible for the transportation and welfare of the physically disabled clients of SPD as well as the general maintenance of SPD's premises and building.

2         Investigations revealed that between October 2005 to March 2007, the accused had on 18 occasions accepted bribes totaling $17,500/- from one Ng Chew Chuah @ John, the sole proprietor of M/S Ming Chuan Transportation & Coach Service as a reward for his assistance to the said Ng Chew Chuah @ John in procuring the contract to provide transportation services for the SPD.

3        The accused appeared in Court on 9 April 2010 for 18 counts under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Cap 241 for corruptly accepting the bribes from Ng Chew Chuah @ John.
