Man in the shadow

Selvarajan s/o Letchuman has been charged for corruption offences related to match-fixing in soccer. CPIB takes a firm stance against all corrupt practices in Singapore.

When a soccer team loses a game, we generally attribute the problem to the players’ performance, the managers’ tactics or even a “bad” judgment call by the referee. We even question whether some of the players are being overpaid by the club for giving sub-standard performance. But have we considered that there could be more than one paymaster who stealthily orchestrated the outcome of the match even before it is being played? This “man in the shadow” destroys the beauty and ideals of the sport!

2. On 29 May 2012, Selvarajan s/o Letchuman (Selvarajan), a Singaporean, will be charged in court for offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

3. Selvarajan s/o Letchuman will be charged for one count of corruptly giving gratification under Section 6(b) read with Section 37(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 241; and one count of corruptly agreeing to give gratification under Section 6(b) read with Section 37(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 241.

5. Singapore has always adopted a zero tolerance approach towards corruption. The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) takes a serious view of any corrupt practices in Singapore and will not hesitate to take action against any parties involved in corrupt practices.
