Former Employee of Takenaka Charged for Accepting Bribe


          The accused, Beh Soo Hong was a Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Coordinator of Takenaka Corporation at the time of the offence, and was deployed as one of the M&E coordinator for the upgrading project at Changi Airport Terminal 1 where Takenaka Corporation was the main contractor.

2         Investigations revealed that between June and September 2008, the accused together with one Mohamad Najib Bin Solihin, a Technical Officer in the Engineering Department of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) overseeing the upgrading project, approached one Raymond Loh Toh Yong, a Director of Air System Technology (S) Pte Ltd (“AST”) for gratification. AST was then the sub-contractor undertaking the air-conditioner installation work for the upgrading project. After discussion, Raymond agreed to give a sum of $18,000/- to Najib in return for Najib’s agreement to approve AST’s application for a “permit-to-work” without delay and to refrain from finding fault with the upgrading works undertaken by AST. The said $18,000/- was allegedly received by both the accused and Najip.

3         Mohamad Najib Bin Solihin was convicted for corruptly accepting and attempting to obtain gratifications from several contractors involved in the Changi Airport Terminal 1 upgrading project, including corruptly obtaining gratification from Raymond Loh in common intention with the accused. He was sentenced to a total of 6 months’ imprisonment on 26 July 2010 and ordered by the Courts to pay a penalty of the total amount of bribes he received.

4         The accused appeared in court on 1st September 2010 for corruptly obtaining gratification from Raymond Loh in common intention with the said Najib.
